Cursor vs Claude Code:
two ways of working.
These are the two tools developers build with, and they turn up more and more with people who are not developers themselves. Unlike Lovable or Bolt they do not make anything from nothing: they work inside a project that already exists. That is their strength and the reason they feel different.
Cursor is a code editor with AI built in: you see your files, you click, and the AI proposes changes you accept line by line. Claude Code works from the command line and takes on larger tasks in one go: it reads your project, makes a plan and executes it. If you are a developer you use both, for different work. If you are not, Cursor is easier to follow because you see what changes, and Claude Code is faster but harder to check.

What this means in practice.
Neither builds from nothing
The biggest difference with Lovable, Bolt or v0 is not between these two but between this category and that one. Cursor and Claude Code work in a project that already exists, with your folders, your stack and your history. No project yet? Then you do not start here. Already have one? Then both are far more powerful than a tool that regenerates everything.
Seeing what changes, or trusting what happens
In Cursor you accept change by change. That is slower and it is why people without a coding background get further with it: you notice when something odd happens. Claude Code takes an instruction in one go and touches several files doing it. For a developer that is a gain; without that background you do not know which part of the result you should have stopped.
Neither guards your foundation
This is where it goes wrong for clients. Both tools do what you ask, and neither will tell you unprompted that permissions on your database are missing, that your keys sit in the front end or that you have no tests on the path where money changes hands. That responsibility stays human, and it is exactly the part you do not see while everything works.
How I use them
I use both, and almost never for the same thing. Claude Code for work spanning several files where the pattern is clear, Cursor for precise work where I want to watch line by line. Whatever comes out goes through the same checks as code I type myself: tests, a review and a preview environment before anything goes live.
